At a loss to explain Sarah Palin’s resignation after months of putting herself in the spotlight, many pundits — particularly conservatives who support her political career — have suggested the Alaska governor is working on a 2012 presidential run. But Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele said, in no uncertain terms, that it simply can’t happen.
“Not having talked to the governor, I take 2012 off the table right now simply because given everything she’s going through personally, dealing with the financial mess that all these ludicrous investigations have put her and Todd in, at the moment, I think she’s trying to focus on getting her house in order, her personal house in order,” Steele told FOX News.
“I look forward to welcoming her out and helping us in our campaigns this fall if and when shes ready to do that. Sarah Palin will be the ultimate arbiter of when she will engage and how she will engage,” he said.
A sizable number of Republicans — but less than a majority — seem to agree that it’s not a good idea. According to a Rasumussen poll, 40% think the resignation hurts her chances of winning the nomination in 2012.

I just had a horrible thought. What if Obama screws up, or gets blamed for a bad economy, and is unelectable in 2012. And what if the few arch-conservatives still in the Republican Party so dominae their shrunken party that they elect Palin in the primaries. Could we end up with President Palin?

Conservatism. The only difference is that Osama bin Laden is FURTHER to the right than the average American conservative. The similarities are striking: both groups want to impose their values and their beliefs on the rest of the country. Both groups believe that following their religion will solve all social problems (if not all problems). If you peeked inside their heads, I’m sure you would find that they personally believe their religion should be the state religion and their holy book should be required reading. Is this not true? Huckabee even wants to amend the Constitution to ‘fit Biblical scripture’. Tell me I’m wrong.
Nobody has a good counter argument. Just ‘you’re wrong’ and ‘you suck’. LOL.

How excited are conservatives for this book? Do you find the fact that she wrote what will no doubt be one of the most significant documents in American history in just four months truly astonishing?
Where will Republicans rank this book among other revered documents? I don’t think anyone believes ‘Going Rogue’ will have the kind of influence on the Republican party that ‘The Turner Diaries’ or “Atlas Shrugged’ has. But could it slide into third place on the hierarchy, just before the Bible, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers and finally ‘My Pet Goat?’

Who will these right-wingnuts run? Seriously they cant possibly regroup for 2012 so they must focus on 2016. The Obama team will get out the vote in 2012. Romney is the only legit choice… looks good, great speaker and DOES have a liberal past and could put enough together to win. Palin is a JOKE will NOT stimulate women with any clue. Harold Steele will not stimulate the black vote. Huckabee is unlikely. Charlie Christ is gay, will alienate the conservatives who are the only block the GOP can count on anyway (22% of the vote), and Left gays will not turn for him. The GOP may run a gorilla in hopes of getting the black vote because they are just so removed from reality.

Did You Respect McCain Until Palin Came Along?
just want to know if I’m the only one…I don’t really want to get into a political debate about McCain or Obama. I’m still a little stuck on my vote.
I do like McCain and think he is a pretty solid candidate(I am a registered Republican but have also voted Democrat before). However, some days my vote sways from him because I just can’t stand his VP choice, Palin. I don’t want to get into reasons or arguments with anyone, but really I don’t think she would be an effective president, if it came down to it in an emergency, and her attitude really drives me up the wall. I’m sick of hearing her and her attacks and want McCain back in the picture. I never hear of her plans, just her slashing on the demo party.
Just wondering if anyone has the same sentiment.
Again, I don’t want this question to be about bashing conservatives or liberals….but I figured since it is in elections, I might draw some ire:) Just seeing how you view the VP ticket on this one.
I mean she rebuffs interviews and can be rude to questions…she doesn’t strike me as someone who can take the pressure of this title. She’s already flustering in a campaign! Imagine her as the president!
As someone mentioned, as much as I do like McCain, his judgement call on Palin has me a bit worried. He really could have done better.
Can’t stand her “soccer mom” preaching as well and her constant references to it. It’s not all about you, Palin…its about 100% endorsing the guy above you…McCain. She never seems to do that. Also, I hear she’s all for book-banning and had one librarian fired because the librarian didn’t ban a book she requested.
As someone mentioned, I’m also tired of her general, wishy-washy statements, such as “its all about the children” or “I know about family values.” To me, she is just another self-righteous “soccer mom” who thinks she can win others over by touting her “mom” horn and bragging about her family.
