Were you one of the 40 million viewers who tuned in to watch Sarah Palin give her top notch speech?
After days of intense media coverage about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s qualifications, more than 40 million Americans tuned in Wednesday to see for themselves what they thought of her.
The huge audience for Palin’s acceptance speech rivaled that for Obama’s address at the Democratic National Convention six days earlier, and set a tough standard for the top of her own ticket. John McCain was to accept the GOP presidential nomination on Thursday.
The first two days of the GOP convention essentially served as a build-up for Palin. The Alaska governor hadn’t spoken publicly since McCain selected her for the ticket last Friday, as a series of stories circulated questioning whether McCain had properly vetted her.
Her poised speech, primarily going after Obama and touting McCain’s case for the presidency, was gushed over by many analysts.
An audience of 37.2 million people watched Palin on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC, Nielsen Media Research said Thursday. PBS estimated its audience at 3.9 million, based on a less reliable sample of several big cities. Nielsen does not count the audience for C-SPAN, which also showed the speech.
Last week, Nielsen said 38.4 million people watched Obama speak at a Denver stadium on the six commercial networks, along with BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo — four networks that didn’t cover Palin’s speech. PBS added an estimated 4 million to that total.
Nearly 2 million more women were watching Palin than men, Nielsen said.
Viewers were far more interested in Palin than Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden. Biden’s speech to Democrats last week was seen by an estimated 24 million people.
The audiences for the Obama and Palin speeches were bigger than the ones this year for the Academy Awards, the finale of “American Idol” or the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing.
Nearly 120 million Americans voted in the 2004 presidential election and numbers could be higher this year because of young and minority voters attracted to Obama, and renewed enthusiasm among Republicans for their ticket.

Nope I was at work.

If politics are for squares, then why are you voting? It helps to know what you voting for.
No Obama 2012
not very moving speech from someone who should have PR skills and speech considering she is a trained journalist.
sarah palin fox news show
Do you always cut and paste your propaganda? Oh, that’s what Palin did when she read the speech that Bush’s people wrote for her.
No Obama 2012
I watched it and it made me not like her and pushed me way further to Obama!
No Obama 2012
Yes I watched it, I also watched the Dems. and I still haven’t decided who to vote for!?
sarah palin fox news show
I did
very good
Mccain Palin 08!
sarah palin fox news show
Yeah, i turned it on in the middle of it for 5 minutes and I could not stand to listen to any more.
Then i was on numerous websites reading the comments from everyone and it sounds like everyone had the same consensus that her speech sucked for the most part.
Palin gave a TOP NOTCH speech?? LMAO She barely speaks the English language…you are too funny!
sarah palin fox news show
I saw the speech. It wasn’t top notch, it was written by Bush’s speech writers. It was full of lies and half truths. She did a lot of mud slinging.
I was voting for Obama before her speech and I am voting for Obama after her speech.
No Obama 2012
I watched it on YouTube. I think “what’s her name” would get her stuff kicked by Hilary any day.
Vote Palin
No – I missed the top notch one. All I saw was the embarrassing one full of dishonest attacks on Obama.
She didn’t even state what she believes in – only attacked Obama.
Now the McCain campaign are gagging her to prevent any further embarrassment. She isn’t allowed to answer questions, just give speeches prepared for her by the McCain team.
Vote Palin
Absolutely not. She’s just a gimmick to attract female voters – and I’m not falling for it. I’ve had enough of the Republicans boat of fail, and no matter how they try to distance themselves from the GOP and Bush, it’ll never work.
Why did everyone watch? Because Palin is a hot topic with all her problems and background, and because she’s a woman. But you know? It’s horribly inconsiderate to leave her baby and pregnant 17 year old and throw them into the limelight when it’s such a rough time that Bristol will surely have – she’s had enough flack from it already and the baby isn’t even born! If I was pregnant at her age I’d want as much support as I can get, and Palin can’t give it with all the media attention and possible vice presidency that I hope to God she doesn’t get.

You mean top notch scripted speech. Wait and see how she handles the debates.

You bet and it was refreshing to see and hear a new face with plenty of executive experience too! If anything is going to keep my vote for McCain this November, it is going to be Gov. Pallin.
I hope the maintenance crew is prepared to clean up all the sweat and tears from Obama and his supporters when they lose the election this November!
No Obama 2012
Yes, I watched her speech. It was okay but not great. I think the reason 40 million people watched her speak is because she was almost a complete unknown prior to her speech and people wanted to see what she was about. Of course, there was also the possibility that she would have a melt down or go completely nuts or something, and who would want to miss that?
I’m still voting for Obama in November.
No Obama 2012
Yes, I surely did! Wouldn’t have missed it for the yankees!! Well, I am a rebel at heart, you know, darlin’!!
I thought she gave an awesome speech, as did most of the Republicans…I especially like Fred Thompson’s speech, Rudy Guiliani and Lindsey Graham, Sen. of SC, all gave some awesome speeches. Of course, John McCain was the highlight of them all! Fight for your country, Fight for your freedom, help to Fight for you and our nation!!! Yes, I was inspired once again, by my political party, and realize more and more why I chose to become a Republican……
….over a useless, ranting, uneducated democrat who would rather stand outside and throw bottles at ppl’s cars, rioting and attacking them as they show their respect for their party!!!
No Obama 2012
Saw part of it. Vapid in a word.
No Obama 2012
As a concerned American I had to watch. If he became president and dies she could be our president. He has battled Cancer 4x and is very old 71 or 72. The chance of him dieing is high.
McCain knows nothing about her. He said he only met her once. He shocked his fellow republicans with his decision. He made his fundamental Christians Buddies happy with her pro-life extremist’s beliefs.
She says she has family values. Her 17 year old, un-married, pregnant, high school drop out daughter is painted as a typical American Family Problem. I do not agree with that statement, in fact it is insulting to my intelligence. Teen pregnancy is not a problem in my neighborhood or any of my children’s schools. I do not know any sexually active teenagers. They do not have the time or chances to get away from their parents watchful eyes. Too me it looks more like she is a neglectful mom or just white trash.
Her son did not go to college so they do not value higher education.
Her family values are not the same as my family values. My family values education. I have instilled in my kids that they are not mature enough to have sex and definitely not ready to raise a child. They want to go to University and know risking pregnancy would end that goal.
I needed to see and hear her. One thing that I have learned when listening to people speak is that the more they have to hide of their own personal life the more they will attack another person to smoke screen their true issues and problems. She missed a great opportunity for us to get to know her (that is if there was quality to know) however she spent her time on the attack.
The joke she said about a hockey mom was offensive. My kids play sports to learn team work. Does she not read about the parents that do act like “pit bulls” while their kids are involved in sports?
Since her speech I have researched her and have found so many lies and discrepancies.

Yes , I watched and I was not impressed at all.
