To tax for the purpose of “spreading the wealth around”, as Obama suggests, is socialism. To return taxes to people due to a surplus, or to pay out royalties, is capitalism.

Sarah Palin is doing her job to uphold the Constitution of Alaska – of which she did not write. The citizens of her state own the oil under their soil, and they make a profit off of it. That is very different than socialism.

To Republicans, socialism is only what they say it is. They haven’t a clue and don’t care but they love to use the word as a scare tactic. Palin’s actions in Alaska are more “socialistic” than anything I have heard Obama propose.

So who owned the resources taken from a state owned gas field?
This is not the same as taking tax $$ from an individual that earned it,
and giving it to someone who did not.

No she gave the money of the people back to the people it is different than taking money away from one and giving to someone that has not earned it. The money Sarah Palin gave back was oil money that belongs to the people of Alaska. She didn’t take from high achievers and give to those who have not earned it.
