Newt Gingrich, born on June 17, 1943 the man behind the “Contract with America” which brought the Republican Party to limelight by winning a majority for the first time in 1994 over the last 40 years thereby bringing an end to the reign of the Democratic Party. In 1961 he passed out of Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia. Later from Emory University, Atlanta he received a B.A. degree in 1965. He also received an M.A. in 1968 and PhD later 1971 on Modern European History from the Tulane University, New Orleans. His personal life has been a topic of interest over the years for the media as well as his opponents. He was first married to Jackie Battley at the age of 19 and had two daughters. But he soon got divorced in 1980 and has married twice thereafter.

He changed the status quo by transferring power to the hands of American people from Washington. Newt Gingrich, also an author and politician, was the speaker from 1995 – 1999 at the United States House of Representatives. Before being successful in winning the seat in November 1978, he had run ineffectively at the house twice. Under Newt’s leadership, the first tax cut in 16 years, welfare reform and the balanced budget was passed.  He represented the Republican opposition against Bill Clinton. During late 2008, Newt expressed strong disagreement over the American tax payers bailing out many financially weak organizations and said the bailout plan is incorrect and might worsen the situation in the future. Highlight of Gingrich’s management in Congress was the opposition to most of the principles of Clinton Administration.

In 1988 soon after the elections, when the Republicans lost 5 seats, Newt Gingrich resigned from his post of the speaker. After resignation, Gingrich moved on working as a consultant and political analyst. Gingrich is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the conventional Hoover Institute, looking into matters pertaining to the world history, environmental policies, national security policy and U.S. politics.

Newt Gingrich in 2012 has been recognized as a top candidate for the presidential elections in by various political commentators, such as Marc Ambinder and Robert Novak in the in The Atlantic and Washington Post. Ambinder also stated that Gingrich has already planted seeds in New Hampshire, Iowa and Doylestown. Gingrich is alleged to be keen on chairing the Republican National Committee ever since  Obama’s victory in the  US Presidential Election, 2008. He has later stated that he is not looking for the position, but is taking into consideration standing for Presidential elections in 2012. A close friend of Gingrich did tell the Atlanta Standard, that he would take up the appointment if a greater part of RNC desired to have him at the post. For Newt Gingrich, 2012 is not a long shot away, and so isn’t his dream at the White House.  During 2012, Newt Gingrich, the next president elect is what we will be talking about then if he utilizes the period available from now until the next campaign to gain experience and make his worth felt to the potential voters in the years to come.
