Jeb Bush

John Ellis Bush, aka Jeb Bush, born in Midland, Texas, rose to international prominence when he donned the hat of the governor of Florida in 1999. He is the younger brother of outgoing Republican President George W. Bush, and the son of Former President George H.W. Bush. He married a Colombian of Mexican origin whom he met when he was in Mexico teaching English. A Texan, he moved to Florida in the early 1980s and joined a Real Estate Development Company called the Codina Group. After being the Secretary of Commerce in 1987 for Florida State, under Governor Bob Martinez, he set his sight on the coveted Governor’s seat in 1994. But his bid flopped that time, going down to Lawton Chiles.

A Republican, he has politics running in his blood. His grandfather, on his paternal side, Sen. Prescott Sheldon Bush was in the Senate from 1952 to 1963 representing the state of Connecticut. His father, Pres. George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st President and his brother, Pres. George Walker Bush, the 43rd President. In 1999, though, he won the bid for the seat of the Governor of the state of Florida on his second attempt, a position he’d have until he retired in 2007. Throughout his political career, his views have been staunchly conservative.  In 1999, he ran on a platform that laid emphasis on traditionally Democratic Party issues pertaining to education and the like.

His well known exploits during his tenure as governor for eight years include his efforts in reforming the state education system, one which he recommended on the implementation of a controversial voucher program, wherein some students were allowed to a private school transfer, thereby ending affirmative action in admissions to Florida’s universities and the state contracting. Besides, some others that gained attention include his policies aimed at shrinking of the Florida Government, a tactic that led to disputes, which were politically costly public ones.

In 2012, Jeb Bush could stand as a heavy front-runner, as he has played a part in the seven of the last eight elections, starting from his father’s failed presidential bid in 1980. Being, one of the most popular governors that Florida has seen in recent times, he could stand in times of need for the Republicans.

President Obama, in 2012 will be much stronger should he enforce his ideas, but someone with the credentials of Jeb Bush can counter attack that, should he be in the fray for the next elections. Jeb Bush had no remorse in accepting that he indeed had imbibed some ideals of the former Democratic Pres. Bill Clinton, when he replied to a question, that he didn’t emulate the then President Bill Clinton, but all he did was to admire his awesome listening skills which was  something he had to learn.

Jeb Bush in 2012, could well be within the reach of White House, should he continue from where he left in 2007. His character is one that is ready to accept whatever he feels is for his betterment, one of a budding and great politician.

In 2012, Jeb Bush may indeed have his shot at the White House, and if not then, at least in 2016. How much he succeeds in it depends on the experience he stands to garner in the years to come.
